Friday With Grandma Gail

Friday we headed up to WestWorld of Scottsdale. They were hosting Festival of the West. Western film celebrities, Western music, cowboy poetry, Western movies, chuck wagon cooking competition, historic reenactments and more.

I am so happy to see him with a toothbrush. He needs to get used to having this in his mouth.

Trevor had some major drooling issues. We had to take the shirt off. It was soaking wet.

Thursday With Grandma Gail

Lunch at El Ranchero in Wickenburg. A low-key family restaurant with a huge menu of specialties culled from all over Mexico, not just Sonora.

The Nature Conservancy runs the Hassayampa River Preserve 3 miles southeast of Wickenburg, one of the few places where the desert-dwelling Hassayampa River puts in an above-ground appearance. The clear, dependable water attracts some 280 species of birds, as well as salamanders, lizards, and other local wildlife. A desert garden outside the visitor center, which is a converted 1860's ranch, identifies the more typical local plant life.

Castle Hot Springs. Arizona's first resort. Only 30 guests registered the first season, but its fame soon spread across the nation. Some 590 palm trees were planted on the property and a golf course was laid out. Castle Hot Springs has not been operated as a resort since a fire destroyed the dining hall in 1976. It's off limits to visitors now, but we enjoyed the view from the road.

Wednesday was very relaxing for us. I think the only time we left the house was to shop at Costco.
