Our First Day To The PHX Zoo As Members

Thursday November 12th was our first day to the PHX Zoo as members. We attended Farm Tots. It's a program for ages 18-24 months (with an adult). It introduces children to the basics of animal care through free play and animal encounters. On this day we were introduced to the Turkey and Chicken. Then Trevor and I explored some of the zoo. The nice thing about being a member is you don't have to see the whole zoo in one day. You can go back when ever you choose. We love it!

Ivan. The 15-year-old siblings had just made their debut. The stars of the PHX Zoo's new Komodo dragon exhibit, land of the Dragon. They are 7-feet-long. The $1 million komodo dragon habitat, with two enclosures and a 7,000-gallon pool, was funded through donations and is part of the zoo's "tropics trail" area. PHX Zoo officials worked for nearly two years to bring the reptiles to the desert, where the climate perfectly suits the dragons' preferred temperature range of 65 to 115 degrees. Ivan and Gaia were hatched in Cincinnati and split up to zoos in FL and KS before being reunited in PHX, but they won't be spending much time together. In the wild, they tend to eat each other.
